Storm Watch This Week

Appears we are in for another dumping of snow this week - of course on dance days!  Stay tuned to our social media for announcements.  An email will also be sent before 4pm with any changes/cancellations for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Big thanks to Megan also for covering my classes tonight at KV Dance (Monday) as I attempt to recover from a head cold!

Long Weekend Feb 16-18

No regular classes this coming long weekend - both Saturday and Monday classes (both locations).  Enjoy this family day weekend!

Medal Tests - May 5th

Our annual dance exams with BATD are scheduled for Sunday, May 5th (early evening). This is a different time slot than we are used to - however - requires a lot less coordination with parents' work schedules and dancers!

Dancers will receive their information in class in the next 2 weeks regarding the suggested level(s) for their next exams.  The deadline to commit to exams is March 9.  This is early so the admin can be mostly taken care of before Erin welcomes the new baby, and also so that dancers have ample time to master any new steps/dances required before May 5.

For our newest dancers (mostly Saturday classes) - I will send you additional information about exams and what they are all about!

April 7 - OHDA/SDCCS 2021 Showcase Concert

OHDA will be hosting a wonderful showcase of highland dance as a fundraiser for the Scotdance Canada Championships that will be here in Ottawa in 2021.  ALL dancers are invited to take part. (Min knowledge is 16 PDB + PDB/HC for Primary dancers).

Please fill out this quick form so we have an idea of how many dancers/what levels will be participating.  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DCRSWHT   DEADLINE - FRIDAY FEB 15 - THIS FRIDAY!

If your dancer isn't quite ready to take part on stage, we hope you will support the local highland dance scene and attend as an audience member! The show is on a Sunday afternoon so even our youngest dancers/siblings can attend and be inspired!

March 24 OHDA Workshop

OHDA is also hosting a spring workshop again this year - lots of great learning opportunities from various teachers including Change of Step Dancers and current World Champion Marielle Lesperance!

Dancers should have a min knowledge of Beginner competitive dances to take full advantage of this day (Fling, Sword, ST, Lilt, Flora).  If you are unsure - please check in with your teacher.

Online registration via OHDA website - https://www.ohda.ca/workshops.html

Term 2 Registration

A reminder that we are now into Term 2 - second/last term for the dance year!  If you haven't done so already - please be sure to register online so we have an up to date email list.  Following this email, I will only be using Term 2 registered dancers.  Links for sign up are on our website!

OHDA Competition - Feb 23 and Choreography Feb 24

Our next local competition is fast approaching! We have dancers competing all day on Satruday (AM - Primbary, Beginner, Novice and Intermediate and PM - Premiers).

No admission to come and watch either day - all details of location and times are found online - https://www.ohda.ca/competitions.html

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR FEB 23!   We are on games duty for the morning competition - if your dancer is taking part on Saturday or Sunday - please try to volunteer one shift Saturday morning.  Details are in the online sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090D45A4A62AA1FE3-ohda .  This is our ONLY OBLIGATION for the full weekend.

Sunday is our annual choreography competition - we have one solo, one duet, one trio and one group!  A much smaller entry than previous years, however a fantastic day overall to watch some really fun highland dancing.  We are so fortunate to have this unique event in Ottawa!

Annual Spring Fling Recital - Planned for June 9/Sunday Afternoon

Details are still being worked out - but please keep Sunday, June 9 free for our annual recital and social!  We want all dancers to be able to join us!

Technique Tune Up with Sabrina - will return in the spring!

January - March weekends have been filled by competitions, holidays and March breaks - making it a challenge to schedule Sabrina's popular weekend classes!  Not to worry - we will plan a few more for April/May/June - stay tuned!
